I'm new to the site and figured I'd give this a try.

It seems like most of the names coming up are from the east, and nothing against the athletes listed but I figured I would throw out a couple names from the part of the state I'm a little more familiar with.

Brian Dokken - Crosby could fit the list at OL

How about a Kittleson (Wade, Jade) from Velva at LB. They have had some good teams in Velva and no one on the list yet, not too mention were pretty good ball players at SU also.

My 2 cents

Your right about the Kittelsons they are studs, what Kittelson is the best though? Somebody from the west should make a list it'd be fun to see what that looked like, i'm from the east so i haven't seen a whole lot of the west players.

Which Kittleson is better?  Now that's tough.  Wade I think had the better college career but he also spent all of it as DII.  Jade if I recall correctly has more HS state championships but part of his college career was the start of DI.

Some other West Names I can think of off hand are already listed.

Essler and Delebarre  from Minot Ryan,  The Whistoff kid from Burke Country (UND).

I know I'll start a fire with a few people here but how about having Bollinger backing up Randy Hedberg - Parshall at Quarterback?  He was drafted out of Minot State by the TB Bucs and started 5 games as a rookie.  His pro career wasn't real long but still.  Plus he's not doing too bad of a job as a coach either - Minot State, UND, St. Cloud

How good of a FB player was Karter Kleeman of Killdeer a few years ago? I know i got to see him on a wrestling mat and he was an absolute beast! NO ONE CAME CLOSE TO HIM! I think he's playing fb at Dicky now...

Yeah went to Dickinsons website and what i got from it is he redshirted in 03, in 04 he played in 12 games. Was 6th on the team with 46 tackles. Karter added 9.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 QB sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one pass break-up. Played in 11 games this year had 37 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, .5 a sack, 2 fumble recoveries. Your right though about him wrestling, nobody touched him and he was an animal.

Kittleson countdown

1. Wade - beast in high school, probably played in a tougher league in HS than any of the others.

2. Jayd - good career at NDSU

3. Matt - redshirted at NDSU this past year

4. Cody - probably the fastest

5. Justin - big WR in high school

6. Dusty - probly least known because he was a lineman of course

7. sorry if i forgot anybody or offend any of the kittleson's, just goin with the more recent ones

To add to Lefty's list I believe Jade left his final year of eligibility to persue his career and his life.  I believe he would have had a heck of a last year at SU.  And what about Curt back in the day.  I believe he has up there and Justin also played a few years in college at WR although I can't recall where exactly..maybe morehead?

That list was quite literally off the top of my head. Particularly when it came to players who played before the 80's, it was difficult to include everybody since that was well before my time.

It's hard to compare players from years ago to those of the of the last 10 years.  There are many, many players from prior eras that were incredible athletes, but had nothing like the training/speed programs available today.  While someone like Dressler should be on the list, there have probably been another 10 guys with similar natural talent that never had the opporunity, be it lifting, acceleration, or even coaching, that today's kids have access to.
