Which team was the most dominating team in ND? I don't mean traditionally, but just for one season...

2002 Cavalier
2003 Cavalier
2000 Dickinson Trinity
1998 Watford City
One of the 15 State Champion Fargo Shanley teams
1980's early 90's Fargo south teams
1998-99 West Fargo

Saw those Watford City, Trinity, cavalier, and west fargo teams. Never saw those shanley or south teams. I'm sure theres alot of other great teams too but just a few to throw out there. I'd go with Cavalier 2002 team they would play alot of close games with best teams in ND don't know if they'd win them all but they would be great games.

I would say Richland is one of the best 9-man teams, but they wouldnt stand a chance against any of those teams i had listed. But there definately a great 9-man team.

Without a doubt they wouldn't have stood a chance.  I'm just going by how thoroughly they dominated their opponents.  Richland only had one close game and that was in the playoffs.  The rest were complete blowouts.  I'd say probably a South or W.F. team would be probably the best team in history for a couple of reasons.  They had really good coaching, and a they are big schools that had a lot of talented kids come through at the same time which gave them talent and depth.  That would be my best guess.  I've always like the underdogs who knock off the big schools myself.

The 2 Maddock teams from 2002-2003 were very well coached, and their defense was top notch.

Here's a twist to your question.  What was the greatest dynasty in ND football.  OK obviously Shanley under Cichy, how about #2.  Watford City, Cavalier, Velva  gotcha thinking didn't I?

Playing on the turf at the Fargodome made Richland look pretty dynamic, but they were down until about a minute left in their semifinal game in some mucky conditions. Still, Jon Griffith is unbelievable. Anyone hear if he may be playing somewhere next season? I think he could play in the DAC, but I could be wrong.

Velva gets my vote for dynasty after Shanley, but Cavalier and Watford are both good choices.

Its tough to say since class A and AA started who has the best dynasty out of Velva, Cavalier, Watford City, and Dickinson trinity. If you put Velva in the same class with Cavalier and DT how would have they have faired against Trinity and Cavalier? I will give Velva dynasty in class A, class AA its kind of a wash with Cavalier and Trinity both having great teams the past 6 years. South in the 80's and New England Regent would have to be up there too.

The late 70s and all of the 80s were dominated by Fargo South coached by Dale Hertel.... I believe he won 8 state titles during those years!!   Kevin Feeney is bringing South Football back to domination!!   AAA football rules

What about college Teams? NDSU in the 80's or UND of late? Dynasty in high school football would have to go to Velva and Coach Sandy. What is it like 5 or 6 out of 9? Is there anyone that can even touch that Dynasty? As for team powerhouses, man there have been a lot in all 3 classes. That is a debate for the ages.

I'll go back a few years here and throw in New Salem under Coaches Harald Schwan and Art Schilke. They had a 4  or 5 year undefeated string in class B 11 man in the early 70's. That was back before there was a state playoff system. They held the record for consecutive victories for quite a few years.  BTW this is a great site, I hope it catches on!

If you wanted college dynasty it would have to go the the 80's Bison. titles in 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990. They only lost to UND once in the 80's that was 1980. They went 103-20-2 through out the 80's. Some people will argue that either that 86' or 88' teams were one of the greatest D-II football teams of all time. After looking at the scores to some of those games those years it would be hard to argue against them. Quite an impressive run in the 80's

Best HS team ever? It was probably one of Fargo South's teams from the 1980s. They had running back Tony Satter (went on to average about 8 ypc for NDSU) and one year they played the eventual WI state champion in Wisconsin and smacked them around pretty good.

That is tough to argue with indeed. From what I hear those teams were tough. Much like the Cichy years at Shanley.

It will be interesting to see what Feeney can do. He's a good guy and there is potential for big things from Fargo South again!

i would say the Bismarck team with esslinger who ripped everyone up his senior year or one of the west fargo teams who won 23 straight and scores of 51 and 45 in the State Championship games, easily winning them in 02 and 03

I really think that one of the west fargo teams from the late 90's early 2000's would be at the top of my list, and maybe a fargo south team from next year ;) Man there going to be amazing next year

linton definitly has to be one of the best teams in class b, they basically manhandled everybody except for a couple games in a stretch of 3 to 5 years. also stanley has to be given creditbecause they have basically given velva a run for their moneyevery year. velva will lose in the regular season and will win the playoffs game and viceversa for stanley i have been to about 5 meetings of these teams and they are always GREAT games.

You got to put New England/ Regent 89 team as the best team and you want to talk about a program...... They had the best football program for about 20 yrs in ND for 9man football.

I'm with you on the 89 NE-R-NESM team. Scott Sheldon was one of the most underatted Qbs ever, even in his own family!

Just to clarify, Tigers won state in 88 and moved up to 11-man in 89 went to the play-offs and got beat by a good Linton team.
