Too bad run. Talent pool of 100000+ means more than your technical enrollment.

I wasn't aware there was 100000+ high school aged boys near any of these schools. Wow!

No districts smart a--. 100000 is low, considering that they could come in from all over the country. But, since you're such a smart guy, I'll clarify by stating that one school is in a community where the talent pool is drawn from over 130000 permanent residents.

I think it would be sweet to have parochial and private schools have a league of their own! Prob not enough teams tho...any idea how many around ND?

I agree, Dickinson Trinity, Bishop Ryan, Oak Grove and such, along with Valley City they should all be in Class A and stay there until they get to 100 or less total in HS, then it would equal things out to the 150 to 200's drawing from 1,000 to 2,000 people....Great point, great analysis!

So if the talent pool is "drawn" from 130,000 residents, that would make the talent pool of potential high school basketball players 20% of that MAX, since around 20% of north dakota citizens are under 18, so 26,000. If you can't agree to that we must have a different understanding of the term "talent pool".

I understand that it is a larger number than the other schools, but your exaggerations bothered me.

Quite correct, and by comparison, a Class "B" town of 1000 people, a middle-to-big Class "B" town by today's standards, would have a talent pool of, by your percentage, 200.

So, 200 to 26,000. Good comparison.

The bleeding hearts from the privates cannot deny that there are plenty of advantages to where they are located, regardless of the technical enrollment comparisons. This bull about "walking the halls" is pure crap. Numbers don't lie.

I've got an idea.... Why don't they just give every team a trophy.... Then everybody wins.
Get real Heimer. No private school gets to pick any athlete out of a talent pool.

It's sad, really. I'm so bad at this compared to private school fans. I have to work really hard and try to make myself look sound like an apologist in denial, without a single ounce of intelligence. Private school apologists don't even have to try. It comes so natural.

The reason why it's so natural is because that's all we hear as a private school. We don't hear, "Man that Trinity/Ryan/ETC team is good. Those boys must have been playing together for awhile." We hear, "Well lets see who they recruited this year. Oh, so and so wasn't on the team last year, must have came from the public school." I would love to see you be a parent or an athlete at a private school, because some of the stuff that's said is just rediculous.

You cannot disregard the enrollment numbers. In grades 9-12....New Town, Linton, Standing Rock, and Grafton, all have larger enrollments then the private schools in the state tourny. Why are you complaining about the private schools getting to pick from a wider range when there are other, what you consider to be "true" class b schools, that have larger enrollments than them?

Don't waste your time with heimer. He has an ax to grind. There are plenty of good kids and good stories at the B this year as always. Root for your team, respect the others, and turn the other cheek.

Back in the eighties when I went to OG I believe there were over 200 class B schools and OG was probably the only private school in that group. I think we are down to 116 class B basketball programs for 2010/2011. Private/parochial schools make up about 8% to 10% of the present total of Class B schools. If you move these programs to class A they will not be competitive.

Class B would also end up with even less basketball programs if you make this move. Getting to the class B state tourney is special and I hope it remains that way. I don't get into the class A tourney until the final game because it just doesn't mean as much to get there.

I can't speak for other private schools but I believe OG is having good success in basketball right now because we have a good coach who has been in the program as a player, an assitant and as a head coach for a long time, so we have good continuity. OG could compete with some class A schools this year but only because we have an unusually high number of seniors on the team. In every other sport we would be crushed.

Might as well just shut down the school if they get 100 or less kids.

Region 1- Fargo Oak Grove- 195 (7-12) 32.5 kids per class
Region 2- Grafton- 265 (9-12) 66.25 kids per class
Region 3- Linton- 124 (9-12) 31 kids per class
Region 4- North Star- 82 (9-12) 20.5 kids per class
Region 5- Standing Rock- 238 (7-12) 39.67 kids per class
Region 6- Bishop Ryan- 251 (7-12) 41.83 kids per class
Region 7- Dickinson Trinity- 160 (7-12) 26.7 kids per class (I'm 99 percent sure this number is low)
Region 8- New Town- 215 (9-12) 53.75 kids per class

I don't think these enrollment numbers represent "Class B". Some of these schools have more kids in one class then most class b schools have in their entire high school. Just my two cents.

I provided 160 as the enrollment for Trinity in grades 9-12.

That's what I thought was mentioned earlier too...thanks for confirming it.

Linton's numbers are wrong also...because of the co-op with HMB (64 in 9-12); then their numbers should be 184 in grades 9-12
