Well first they have to be accepted into a conference (I'm pretty sure they haven't, but i've been wrong before), secondly they have to wait 4 years, third, they have to recruit alot better as UND's mens basketball teams have struggled in the past few years. And fourth, They need their own Ben Woodside :D

Someone deleted the DAC comment. That was the funniest thing I've read in awhile.

2012-2013 season for basketball and football. They're probably eligible next year to qualify for VB, soccer, softball, and other low revenue sports.

And I'm pretty sure you don't have to be in a conference to make the tournament, I could be wrong, but it would be quite unlikely for a school like North Dakota to get an at-large bid.

That was what i was going for, because a tiny school will NEVER get an at large bid without a conference, they would have to schedule and beat 2 major D-1 teams, and probaly go undefeated.

I hope USD can get in as soon as possible, get to the big dance, so the world can be exposed to Louie Krogman. The kid can play!

But they won't accept UND until the issue with their nickname gets resolved.

Will that issue ever get resolved? Seems like it's been going on forever.

It will be resolved as soon as they change their name to the Fighting Frogs, like I propose.

yep that's what's holding UND back right now... conference affiliation is more important than a nickname!

Nickname is supposed to be resolved by 2010.

the changing of the Sioux nickname is almost inevitable. without it they'll be able to secure a conference bid, but even it it does get approved by the Tribes you can bet it will come up again in the future... IMO and many others, it is best if they change it, and soon...

If they change it does the Ralph/betty get bulldozed to the ground? I know that was in the orriginal contract, is it still part of it?

I believe the Spirit Lake Nation vote is today. I've been seeing commercials in support of the nickname up here. Wonder how the vote will turn out?

From the preliminary results, it looks like the Spirit Lake Nation is going to support the Sioux nickname

Whats the next step for Spirit Lake Nation??

As far as I understand, there isn't a next step. If the majority voted in support of the nickname, the council was going to give UND their support. Then UND needs to get the support of the Standing Rock tribe to get the NCAA to allow them to continue using the nickname.

67% of the Spirit Lake Nation voted to support the Sioux nickname. To me, that means there is a silent majority of the Tribe that supports UND's use of the Sioux name.
