Very true, and I don't think ESPN would put that info on there site if it wasn't true.

Congrats to Tim Miles! I hate to see him go but it will be a good step for him. Colorado State comes to Fargo next year in basketball. I am sure NDSU will be playing CSU a lot down the road.

I don't know who the next coach will be but I trust Gene Taylor. He has done a great job! Go Bison! :)

I don't see why bringing Smith in would be totally bad, he is very intelligent about the game and since he was an assistant under Miles, he would know where the team was. In some ways, its always good to promote in house guys, but one knows with what Smith has done at Mayville that hes going on to bigger and better things in the near future.

If, in your job, you were able to triple your salary, and climb another rung on the "ladder", how could you not move.  I'm sure he has mixed feelings about leaving NDSU, but come on......with everything involved he'll probably make $500,000 a year.

so I'd guess Juno Pintar might be in line for the NDSU job?

This was bound to happen.  Good for Miles.  I just hope they can find another coaching gem so they can succeed and be one of the top teams in the MidCon

I could see Smith getting hired at NDSU as an assistant.

Smith was formerly an assistant at NDSU, that doesn't make any sense to me.

Last time Smith was at NDSU, he was an unpaid assistant and I think NDSU was still a D2 school. I was thinking that if Smith wants to be a DI head coach some day, he might be better off being an assistant at a DI school than being a head coach at Mayville State. Dunno. I don't think he's going to be NDSU's next head coach though.

I'd agree Saul Phillips is solid in house.....or launch a search for a HUGE name assistant from a BIG time programl. Craig Smith is NAIA. NDSU is DI.....i think that's to big of a leap even if Smith is a great coach.

Tim miles coached at mayville before ndsu. So what if Smith is the next miles?

even NDSU AD Gene Taylor has publicly stated that Smith doesnt have the cred. to coach at NDSU.

Miles was at Mayville before SW State. When he went from SWS to NDSU , Bison were still DII....BIG difference.

I'll say it again. It will NOT happen.

Because of the shift in divisions in the last several years, I think schools are taking themselves a little to seriously in terms of where they are in the big picture.  NDSU has had a couple of good seasons but they are by no means even a mid level DI BB school.  They still play several of the schools from the NCC and DII.  Smith won't be considered but only because of his pedigree not because he isn't a quality coach whose record speaks for itself.

so NDSU beating Wisconsin and Marquette evidently equates to an instutuition that takes itself too seriously? That's like saying Lincoln is cultural epicenter due it's proximity to Bismarck. Lincoln is Lincoln and NDSU is North Dakota State University home of the Bison.

I am saying they won this season with Tim Miles at the helm, he was at Mayville and then SW Minn.  Smith already has more experience than Miles did in terms of DI and DII coaching when Miles was hired.  He seems to have done pretty well.

I don't understand exactly because Miles had been a head coach for division II SW Minnesota St. and Smith has never been a DII head coach before.
