Not to be too big of a homer, but I think the Twins have a good as shot as anyone. Offense should be a given if they can match the production of last year. The only question mark (albeit a big question mark) is the 2 through 5 starting pitching.

If the Twins can find a way for the starters outside of Johan to give them 6 innings, they will win a lot of ballgames with the best bullpen in the bigs.

Chalk up a "W" when you see this in the boxscore

7th - Neshek/Crain (either/or)

8th - Rincon/Reyes (likely both)

9th - Nathan

Ballgame.

My only prediction is that the Cubs will not win the world series.:(

i think boof will be all right. what do you think about silva? is this year going to be more of last year all over again? garza might be good, but it seems like young guys always fade towards the end of the season. i'm praying that ponson gets lost somewhere in nebraska...hopefully he's driving with ortiz when that happens.

I agree with you, I think Boof will have a very solid season. As for silva i'm not so optimistic. I don't think he will be as bad as last year, but not as good as the year before when i thought he pitched great even though his win-loss record didn't reflect it.

I guess I'm not too worried about Boof. It seemed that he got stronger as the season progressed last year, likely because he figured out how to pitch on that level. Garza was encouraging Wednesday night. It will be a test to see if he can last until October. It is hard to say if his struggles last year on the Major League level were due to lack of experience, or because never in his life had he pitched that many ballgames in one year. People have to remember that he is only 2 years out of college, which the season lasts from Feb to June.

Silva worries me, especially after the other day. He needs to find his 2005 sinker, as Lavelle E. Neal, strib columnist puts it (great blog by the way on the strib website). A sinkerball pitcher without an effective sinker results in a live batting practice pitcher.

Ortiz, remains to be seen. Decent outing last night, one earned run in two innings pitched. That ratio results in a "quality start" over 6 innings.  I'm anxious to see Slowly, especially if Silva cannot recover. Apparently Slowly is the second coming of Brad Radke.  I see Ponson as a bonus if it works out. I'm not expecting much out of him, so if he's successful, wonderful.   Baker needs to go to AAA this year and stay there all year.  I think bouncing up and down between AAA and the bigs sort of plays with a young pitcher like that.

Sorry if this got a little long. It's either talk Twins with you all or my wife, which consists of a debate between the Blue uniforms vs. the White ones. :?

I know dennys reyes had a great year in the pen but I think he used to be a starter for Kansas City so do you think they might give him a shot at it? but yet we would need a lefty in the pen so what are all your thoughts???

i think i'd keep him in the pen...he has a body like mine...built for short sprints (1 or 2 innings of relief) and not a marathon (30-plus quality starts).

I don't think the twins would be stupid enough to mess with a sub 1.00 era.

Plus Denny Reyes had fatigue issues last year beginning about August.  The guy throws 5 pitches every appearance, which is about every other day, provided they are winning.

At that rate, if Reyes was a starter, he'd be gassed by May.

Agreed with Simply The Best, I wouldn't mess with the bullpen at this point. The Twins have a good thing going there with Reyes as a quality set-up.

I think the best division is the al central, it used to be the worst but that changed fast. I think the twins, white sox and tigers will come down to a great race again for the divison crown. The twins are my favorite because of johan the cy young, the mvp justin morneau, and the batting champ mauer and the best bullpen in the league. They will need to have some one step up in their starting rotation otherwise you could see one of the other teams win the al central

Yea right, the Indians, are you kidding me. There pitching is terrible, especially now that Westbrook got hurt. And they probably have one of the worst bullpens in baseball.
