I don't think there is any way Newtown should be playing 9man if their numbers say they should be playing AA. Play where the numbers place them, end of story.
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

That's my question. What are their numbers? If they have 50 out that's one thing. If they have 20 that's another

If a school has 150 boys and 20 go out that is there problem, build a program that kids want to be a part of, hire coaches who will bring pride back to the program and kids will go out.

I think it said they had 115 boys.

My guess is most of the teams in next years region 3 are glad New Town is with them.

Oh I'm not even talking about them being dominant in 9 man, because it will be the exact opposite, I disagree purely based on the numbers.

Exactly you start making exceptions...when do you draw the line

I look at the New Town thing from this perspective: sure, New Town won't set the world on fire in 9-man. But they end up bumping someone up to 11-man that maybe shouldn't be there.

why do they use the FR meals for football and not other sports? I know in MN you can have your enrollment reduced with FR meals, but they do it for every sport, not just football.

It's a strange deal, but the NDHSAA folks, in looking back over participation data for the last however many years, have seen a correlation between schools with a significant number of students on reduced meal plans and football participation. They don't see the same correlation in other sports.

You could try to explain the correlation but that gets into a whole bunch of generalizations that almost smack of stereotyping. I'll let the NDHSAA professors explain that one.

There are enough teams that are opting up out of nine man, I don't think moving the largest nine man team up is a big deal.

Well, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't apply to any class A teams, so it wouldn't matter for other sports since there is only 2 classes.

I meant how many do they have out for fball? If they have 50 kids playing than they shouldn't be in 9man playing against teams with 15 kids out. But I'm guessing its more around 20.

And I'm sure that number has dropped since the start of the season. Pretty hard to compete in 11man with those numbers, yet alone AA. Granted I'm all for building a program to increase numbers, but as someone stated before there are a lot of other factors in there that make that a hard thing to do. Can it be done? Of course. and I'm sure if Newtown or FW starts dominating 9man the NDHSAA will take another look at the enrollment factor. But remember, its not just Native American schools that this affects. There are a lot of other schools that have dropped their programs to co-op with someone else and their enrollment is weighted in that co-op as well.

2012 numbers are finalized in October. This was done before then???

another team that should be 11-man based on enrollment but is 9-man now is richardton/taylor /hebron. what are your guys thoughts on them. they always were dominent when they were 9-man and now they even have a larger enrollment for it.
