I had just looked at this yesterday and was going to start a topic on it. I think the shifts in enrollment over the past few years are very interesting. Some of the teams moving that I noticed...

Watford City, Stanley, and Enderlin/Maple Valley move up to AA and Trinity grew quite a bit so they don't have to opt up. Leaves 9 teams in the East and 7 teams in the West so don't know how they move around the regions.

Rugby, Botno, and Ryan down to A. North Border, Surrey, Central McClean, Four Winds, Hillsboro, and Bowman all move up to A from 9man.

Oak Grove, Milnor/North Sargent, Rich/Tay, West/Glen, and Hatton/Northwood (who was AA not too long ago) all move down to 9man. Velva's enrollment is now well below the A cutoff so don't know if they'll opt up.

This is all just preliminary before opt ups and maybe just preliminary enrollment numbers as well. Some of these schools enrollment could change before the plan is finalized. Have also heard talk about the board possibly going back to 3 classes. I know a survey was sent out to the schools after the season with a lot of questions about the football plan. Be interesting to see what the results end up being.

I know you have to be fair with numbers, but I would hate to see Four Winds and Bowman go 11-man. Both teams would fair much better at 9-man and never be powerhouses. Remember, we have to see who Central Valley co-op's with. I saw recently their co-op with Hillsboro for JH FB was just dissolved for next year. Whoever they co-op with would most likely get pushed to A numbers. Velva didn't even field a JH team this year from what I've heard (they did 7-9 games), but they have an elementary that is larger than their high school, so wouldn't be suprised if they stay at A with the numbers rebounding. Plus, out of that 45 boys they have in 7-10, probably at least 30 will play football. Which would be enough for a competitive A team.

Also, I did not see a Strasburg/Zeeland on new plan, were they just left out accidently? Another interesting note, is Edgeley/Kulm goes from 56 boys to 36. Thats a huge drop off for 9-man! Parshall from 61 to 39. Wyndmere 64 to 43. Hatton/Northwood from 99 to 54. Those were just some big drop offs I noticed in the lower enrollment schools. 20-30 kids isnt much for a AA or AAA school, but in 9-man thats a huge difference.

Central Valley is currently in talks with Thompson.

What's up with Hatton being counted as 24 when their enrollment = 40? I see the same thing with Hebron. These aren't native communities so I don't know why their numbers are being adjusted.

It is not based on race....It is based on income. So numbers are adjusted if a certain % of students qualify for free or reduced lunch plan I believe. Don't quote me on that though...

Yes, that is true. It's one of Heimers biggest beefs about our fball plan and seems to think it only benefits Native American schools. I counted 7 schools that are not native american whose enrollment counts at 60% due to their poverty rate.

I can almost guaruntee that Velva will opt up. I also am very sure Bishop Ryan will opt up as well.

It'd be tragic if Velva moved to 9-man and had to end their rivalry with Bishop Ryan. That's always been a very good rivalry game.

I really hope both opt up because they compete well at the divisions they are in right now. That would also probably put FW back down in 9man where they belong. Wonder if Oak Grove will choose to opt up...I know they haven't had much success in A lately, tho.

Who knows...Oak Grove most likely won't have many football players by then. Since their AA title...their success has been lacking...but partly because of the lack of numbers (and the loss of the Park Christian Co-op).

Moe reported on behalf of the Football Committee. Discussion took place on revising
future plans but did not have time to sufficiently cover these items. The committee
studied the football survey indicating a large return (82.7%) wished to stay with the four
divisions. The survey also supported 77% favored balance of play. It was indicated if
programs are to have balance of play, there will be a need for extensive travel.

Looks like the 3 class idea is dead based on the results from the survey.....

Sounds like FW is going to drop there co-op with Warwick in order to stay down in the 9-man division.

They had only 10 boys in grades 7 and 8, don't know the split. They have a large 10th grade class, so after that class graduates the next year they would be hurting for numbers for a few years until the elementary grades get up there.

Noticed in the board minutes that Carrington has dropped PBK in their co-op and that would drop Carrington down to A in the next plan.

Good, it was a bad idea.

Funny how the athletics world in this state works. A three-class basketball plan is floated, the schools reject it, and the small-school fans on this site rejoice that the schools for it right. Then, a, plan to cut a class of football is floated, over four out if five schools reject it, and the same fan base cries that they got it wrong.

Gotta love double standards. They keep North Dakota sports fans going.

any idea why they use the 2011 numbers to determine who teams play in 2013 and 2014? Wouldn't the numbers in 2012 make more sense??? Especially the way the state dynamics are changing, seemingly, daily...

They count boys in grades 7-10 for 2012. So those boys would be grades 8-11 in 2013, and grades 9-12 in 2014. I am assuming it is enrollment for the 2012 school year. Does it say somewhere that it is 2011 enrollment?

I am completely against adjusting the numbers based on free and reduced lunch, how is a kid in those schools worth any less then a kid who's not? Completely absurd.

If school A has 50 boys that come from impoverished backgrounds and school B has 50 boys that aren't from that background which school is going to have more kids participating? weighted enrollments maybe aren't the best answer but it is a factor as far as numbers to fill a team.

That's what I was thinking. But when was the last time they won a game at the A level? Do you think anyone in AA wants to play them? How many kids are on their roster? I really don't think anyone in 9man is upset they are playing at that level and feels its unfair
