2008-2009 Hockey Preview (At a Glance)

Postby HockeyHigh » Mon Mar 10, 2008 11:35 pm

To start some discussion on the 08-09 season, which is only 8 short months away  , I'll put up some quick stats and previews from the top finishers in State this year. Included in the list are stats from ndhighschoolhockey.com, and listings of returners to Varsity from the previous season (with points) are the only ones listed. Some teams that I intend to add, have yet to be added. I honestly don't have the patience to do all the teams, so if you feel like doing one to finish off the list, just PM it to me or post it (in the same format I'm using), and I'll add it. However right now I'm only doing the ones I have time to do. (Tedious task to do the sorting) Again, I will likely add more teams, these are just all I had time for at the time being.

    Eric Monsebroten -- 11 --- 23 -- 40 --- 474 --- 434 -- 1.74 -- 91.6 -- 17 - 5 - 0

Spoiler Quick Facts: Grafton won the State Championship game against Red River in triple overtime, despite lacking the senior depth of the Red River team. Monsebroten was ranked 2nd overall as a goalie that had played a significant amount of games. Supporting Monsebroten was his "super" junior line, which in juniors alone scored 168 points in the season. Overall, the Spoilers have 11 underclassmen returning to the team, alotting for 223 out of the 312 points of the entire team (About 71% of the teams points). The Spoilers will be the offensively minded team of the 08-09 season. Look towards Chad Demers for team leadership come the season.
Spoiler Note: The Grafton seniors for the 08-09 season beat the South seniors in the Bantam A State championship.

Red River Roughriders
    ----- Name ---------- Position -- Year -- GP -- G -- A -- Pts -- PIM
    Russel Crary -------- Forward -- 11 ----- 27 - 16 - 34 -- 50 --- 14
    Jordan Bancroft ---- Forward -- 11 ----- 27 - 10 - 16 -- 26 --- 16
    Jacob LaDouceur -- Forward --- 10 ----- 27 - 11 - 10 -- 21 --- 10

    Chris Waind ------- Defense --- 10 ---- 27 -- 1 -- 8 ---- 9 ----- 16
    Brock Dahl --------- Forward ---- 9 ----- 25 -- 0 - 1 ---- 1 ------ 0

    Goaltender ------ Year -- GP -- GA -- SON -- SVS -- AVG -- SV% --- W - L - T
    Aaron Meland ---- 11 --- 4.67 - 6 ---- 69 ---- 63 --- 1.29 -- 91.3 --- 3 - 0 - 0

Roughrider Quick Facts: Despite losing to the Spoilers in triple overtime in the state final, Red River finished the season with an impressive 22-5-0 record. Coming the 08-09 season, the Roughriders return 6 underclassmen pointgetters that make up for 124 of 445 points (28%) having been gotten by the Riders. Although only having played slightly less than 5 games, Aaron Meland posts an impressive 1.29 GAA and a 91.3 save percentage. Although the Roughriders lose a lose a lot of seniors, look towards Russel Crary to lead the Roughriders into another successful season.
Rider Note: The Riders have never missed a state hockey tournament in their school history.

Fargo South Bruins
    ----- Name ---------- Position -- Year -- GP -- G -- A -- Pts -- PIM
    Peter Orson --------- Forward -- 10 --- 25 --- 6 -- 12 - 18 --- 12

    Josh Hooey --------- Defense --- 10 --- 25 --- 2 -- 9 -- 11 ---- 4
    Grant Narveson ----- Defense --- 11 --- 3 ---- 1 -- 4 --- 5 ----- 4
    Tyler Sorenson ------ Forward --- 10 --- 17 --- 1 -- 0 --- 1 ---- 6

    Goaltender ------ Year -- GP -- GA -- SON -- SVS -- AVG -- SV% --- W - L - T
    Scott Buchholz --- 10 - 15.67 - 20 -- 320 -- 300 --- 1.28 -- 92.7 -- 10 - 5 - 0

Bruins Quick Facts: The Bruins finished the 07-08 season by beating Bismark in the 3rd place game. Having an up and down 07-08 season, look to the Bruins to push strong into the 08-09 season, returning with 11 underclassmen, including Scott Buchholz, who was ranked as the top goalie in the state (of goalies playing a significant amount of games). Although Buchholz began play halfway through the season, he posted a very impressive 1.28 GAA, a 94 save percent, and 5 shutouts. The Bruins return with 5 defense and 5 forwards with significant Varsity experience, who total for 116 of 250 points (47%) scored by the Bruins. Look for the Bruins to be the defensively sound team of the 08-09 season.
Bruin Note: Of the top 12 pointgetters for South in the 07-08 season, 9 of them were underclassmen.

Grand Forks Central Knights

    ----- Name ---------- Position -- Year -- GP -- G -- A -- Pts -- PIM
    Bryce Anderson ---- Defense --- 11 ---- 24 -- 5 --- 22 - 27 -- 6

    Jake Plutowski ----- Forward -- 11 ---- 24 -- 16 -- 9 --- 25 -- 26
    Tanner Spicer ----- Forward --- 11 --- 24 -- 8 --- 14 -- 22 -- 28
    Danny Ray ---------- Defense --- 10 --- 23 -- 3 --- 13 -- 16 -- 43
    Brenden Gust ----- Forward ---- 10 --- 22 -- 6 --- 5 --- 11 -- 14
    Brett Dziwulski ----- Defense --- 11 --- 24 -- 3 --- 7 --- 10 -- 0
    Justin Moody ------- Forward --- 10 --- 22 -- 3 --- 7 ----10 -- 2
    ----- Name ---------- Position -- Year -- GP -- G -- A -- Pts -- PIM
    Luke Cieklinski --- Defense --- 11 ---- 20 -- 3 --- 4 --- 7 --- 34
    Jordy Aamot -------- Forward -- 9 ----- 24 -- 3 ---- 1 -- 4 ---- 2
    Aaron Hatt --------- Forward --- 10 ---- 14 -- 1 --- 2 --- 3 --- 4

    Tyler Rupe --------- Forward ----- 10 ---- 5 -- 1 --- 1 --- 2 --- 2
    Caleb Folson ------- Forward ----- 10 ---- 11 - 0 --- 1 -- 1 --- 0
    David Sayler ------- Forward ----- 10 ----15 -- 1 --- 0 -- 1 --- 12

    Goaltender ------ Year -- GP -- GA -- SON -- SVS -- AVG -- SV% --- W - L - T
    Seth Lang --------- 10 --- 9.50 - 28 -- 243 -- 215 -- 2.95 -- 88.5 --- 5 - 4 - 0
    Derek Fuller ------- 9 --- 12.17 - 43 - 307 - 264 --- 3.53 -- 86.0 --- 7 - 4 - 1

Knights Quick Facts: Although the Knights lacked a huge presence of Seniors on their 07-08 team, they did very well. The Knights toppled the Bruins twice during the regular season, before falling in the State tournament Play-in game to the same team. The Knights have two able goaltenders, and return 19 underclassmen for the 08-09 season, the most of any other team. These underclassmen make up for 172 of 227 points (76%) scored for the Knights, higher than any other team. Even though they were disappointed in not reaching the State Tournament in the 07-08 season, look for the Knights to come out in the 08-09 season with a strong and balanced team with plenty of Varsity experience.
Knight Note: The Knights return both the most underclassmen and the highest percentage of their teams points of the 07-08 season.

Took about 45 minutes, was pretty tedious though. If I find some quality time again and am in the mood I'll add a few more teams.
