Is it really that interesting considering there's only 18 high school hockey programs in the state of North Dakota and for years there were far fewer?

but you also have to look at how long the west has been playing high school hockey. The east has better programs then the west cause the west is very young. but the should keep on developing as the years go on. but compared to the state titles, of course the east is gonna win more, and prolly gonna keep winnin more.

You can't argue GF's hockey dominance.  They always find a way to win, at every level.  Grand Forks is a true hockey town and that's all there is to it.  There are other teams that should be more consistent, however it isn't happening.

After the seventh overtime they announced that if no one scored in the eighth, the teams would be declared co-champions. The Central and Red River goalies carried the trophy around  the rink together. IT WAS AWESOME!

Appears to me this Tournament needs to get MOVED OUT OF GRAND FORKS and rotated around the State like ALL the Others.

they have it in grand forks because thats where the best arena in the state is and its the center of interest for hockey in north dakota.

SO,  So was the Bismarck Civic Center back in the 70's yet they only hosted the "Big One" (Class B Basketball Tourney) once every 4 years.

They have it in GF because if they had it in the west, no fans from the east would show up for their first round cake walks.  :D

Minnesota has their tourney in the Xcel every year.  Should they move it around the state to rinks of far lower quality?  The Ralph is one of the best arenas in college hockey and I am pretty sure it does the job for the high school tourney.

You're right, that was a stupid thing to post and I apologize. Why would you NOT want to play in one of the Finest Facilities in the Country. Even the OLD Ralph was the best in North Dakota, back in the day. I know playing in the Ralph is a big incentive for teams to make it to State, especially in the West. There was talk several years ago about having ALL teams stay in hotels to somewhat offset any home town advantage, but that impressive record of championships can only mean a real tradition of hockey excellence for the GF schools. Congratulations !

RR and GFC used to play regular season games at the new ralph cuz purpur couldnt hold that many people but that got outlawed so its no ones advantage really.

So the question remains, From a competation standpoint, what can be done with the West. North/South as in NDAHA Peewee A & Bantam A youth ?  Travel is an issue, but "A" teams from GF have been traveling to Williston, Minot and Hazen for years prior to High School. Perhaps a Power Ranking like the BCS in College Football, but then Eastern teams should still have to travel West for some comparison.

Here is what i think but this isnt what others should think:

If the west wants to play the east so bad, then i think it is there responsibilty to travel here or to persuade other teams to travel to there rinks.

If game starts at 730 and ur from GF and its a tuesday nite, u wont get back till the wee hours of the next mornign and most kids wont be able to get up off of 4-5 hours of sleep maximum especially after a game. Same for the west kids too. Overall its not a good idea. Considering people think school comes first which in most cases isnt true

Cdub your a basketball guy, so tell me why they banned coming from high school right to the draft? Most of those kids didn't care about school its just to make the money quicker and not waste their time

Coming from the west i think the west doesn't have the respect yet to get a east team to travel to the west, and they shouldn't teams like south and red river would just send there JV team mostly, and proboly third line Varsity. West needs to prove somthing before the big schools need to even think of traveling west.
its okay.....

I dont really care who plays who and the fact of the matter still remains that you guys from the east are just such studs and your poop dont stink whatever just stay on you high horses but i strongly feel that if the NDHSAA wanted to spread out the accumulation of state championships that they would make a mandatory hotel rule in which GF Fargo's and grafton would all have to stay in hotels because as most people would know it absolutly not cool to sleep in a hotel with 2 to a bed and a 4 man room people are too hot or too cold where as whomever commutes to GF has the luxery of sleeping in their own beds and a good breakfast and whatnot and now if you add that and remove ohh say the first 20 state champions i feel that this interesting stat would be rather different than what it is now maybe not so much from the west standpoint but more spread out in the east
